Dear Parents and Students,

WASHINGTON STATE HISTORY (7th)  Please click on the Washington State History tab to see current information.

Dear 6th & 7th Grade Parents,

I am your child’s 7th grade Social Studies or 6th grade Cougar Connection teacher this year.  Prior to coming to Medical Lake Middle School, I worked at a private boarding academy in the Seattle area two years in administration and at another private boarding school, Upper Columbia Academy in Spangle, Washington as the 9-12th grade history teacher for 13 years.   My family and I love to spend time outdoors. Music, community service, and art also bring me a lot of joy .   I look forward to partnering with you to provide a positive learning experience for your child this year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me, I welcome your emails.

Standard-Based Grading

Students at Medical Lake Middle School receive two types of grades – academic grades and non-academic grades.  Academic grades will show their progress in meeting the reading standards.  There are two non-academic grades:

Work Ethic grade which reflects completing work to the best of their ability and on-time, using class time wisely, showing determination/perseverance.

Responsibility / Respect grade reflects being prepared and on time for class, respecting others, school property and instructional time.

Activities that tend to impact the non-academic grades in my class are not coming to class prepared and having to leave the class to retrieve items from their locker on a frequent basis, trying to sleep or not engaging themselves in the learning process, distracting self or others from the learning process (talkative when expected to be listening or working), and being unorganized and unable to keep track of assignments or tasks at hand.   We are working on all of the above on a daily basis and I will provide support at school as much as I can.

The Classroom Expectations that our class adopted for this year are:

Our classroom consequences are:

1st Conversation with the teacher and communication with guardians

2nd Conversation with the office Administration/communication from teacher or front office

3rd Student receives an office referral

Once again, if there are any special circumstances or questions/concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
