Mrs. Rachael Roll

Welcome parents and students to the 2023-24 school year!

My name is Rachael Roll and along with Ted Koch, I am a proud member of the Medical Lake Middle School Counseling Department. This is the start of my 14th year as an educator and my 6th year as a School Counselor. Previously, I taught English Language Arts before getting my Masters Degree in School Counseling at Eastern Washington University.

Like many of our families in Medical Lake, I moved around quite a bit as a middle and high school student, so I know how challenging new places and routines can be. As an adult, I've also taught in 4 different states and encountered all kinds of students. Now, I'm happily serving the students and families in Medical Lake.

The Counseling Department at Medical Lake Middle School will work with your student to build skills and offer supports to make this year the best school year yet. Go Cougars!

988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

According to the Department of Health, "988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.

The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis."

Mental Health Resources

The last few years have been really difficult for parents and students. As a school counselor, I know how much everyone is struggling without their normal social outlets and many people don't know where to turn for help.

Along with the Mental Health and Wellness team here at the Medical Lake School District, I have compiled a list of helpful resources for those struggling with depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation and thoughts of self-harm. Although everyone is different and not all people respond the same, this list is a good start if you are not sure where to look.

I wish everyone safety and peace.
